Workers’ Rights During COVID-19, Free Workshop on June 17th 7pm-8:30pm
On Thursday June 17th from 7pm-8:30pm Common Good Missoula presents “Workers’ Rights During COVID-19”. This workshop is part of Common Good Missoula’s Civic Academy series. The workshop will take place on Zoom with the ability for participants to join by phone or other device. The workshop is free, but those interested need to register by June 17th.
This workshop is for frontline, essential workers - people working in retail, grocery stores, the tourism industry, public service like sanitation workers, childcare, nursing homes, etc. Attendees of the workshop will learn about health and safety while at work and steps employees can take if they think their rights have been violated. In addition to the presentation, workshop attendees will receive training materials and handouts for future reference.
“Time and time again we hear from our friends and neighbors that they are unsure how to navigate unemployment and/or other federal benefits or they don’t know how to protect themselves when they go back to work. During this time of crisis, workers need reliable and effective resources. This workshop will provide workers with some of the tools needed to make their workplace safe, to get unemployment and other benefits, and to have the tools to work for change in our society”, says Common Good Missoula member Rebecca Pettit.
Workers’ Rights During COVID-19 is the second workshop in Common Good Missoula’s Civic Academy series. Attendance at the first session is not a prerequisite for this workshop. The newly named Common Good Missoula, is a collaborative organizing effort comprised of 35+ local member institutions including faith-based organizations, labor unions, neighborhood groups, the Missoula City-County Health Department, non-profit organizations, and local health clinics. Common Good Missoula seeks to build new relationships across social and political divides while equipping community leaders to engage in public leadership in ways that deepen relationships and build power.
